Yoga

Yoga is an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in India, with roots dating back over 5,000 years.  The word “yoga” is derived from the Sanskrit word “yuj,” which means to unite or join, reflecting the goal of harmonizing the body, mind and spirit. Yoga involves a combination of physical postures (asanas), breathing exercises (pranayama), meditation,  ethical principles to promote overall health, self-awareness and spiritual growth.

There are many different styles and traditions of yoga, each with its unique approach and emphasis on specific aspects of the practice. Some common types of yoga include Hatha, Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Kundalini, Iyengar and Bikram.  The benefits of practicing yoga can include increased flexibility, strength, balance, stress reduction and mental clarity.
