Who is White Umbrella Goddess?
White Umbrella Goddess (Sanskrit: Ushnisha Sitatapatra – Tibetan: Dukkar) is a powerful goddess known mainly in Tibetan Buddhism. It is said that Ushnisha Sitatapatra is one of the female forms of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, so she symbolizes great strength and compassion. An enlightened being with bodhicitta helps all sentient beings to be free from suffering, protects and brings them good luck.
According to the Sitatapatra Sutra, the White Umbrella Goddess arose from the sacred crown of Shakyamuni Buddha while she was in the “paradise” of Trayastrimsa (Tāvatiṃsa in Pali), the second pure land of Kamadhatu, one of the dynasties. Trailokya or Three Holy Realms in Buddhist cosmology.
